Breaking free from the taboos of bondage
Rated 10 / 10

When I was asked if I would like to review a new book for Lovehoney on bondage, I was both excited and apprehensive as a couple with over 27 years of marriage bondage was a topic that had often been discussed but never actually acted on. So postman knocks on the door and as always super fast delivery and discreet packaging. This has always given me the assurance that Lovehoney absolutely takes your privacy very seriously. So the book. Well first off it’s more a pocket book, not a huge hardback filled with pages and pages of filler text. It’s designed to welcome you ,not scare you away before you have even explored the content. As a total novice or someone who is familiar with bondage, the book starts with a very simple but fantastically structured welcome section that covers the absolute do and don’ts. Again, it’s not overloaded with text, it’s to the point direct and impresses safety and respect. So after digesting and agreeing how you're going to move forwards the book simply and beautifully offers you 52 suggestive ways to start your bondage journey. I say ways. Possible a better word would be scenarios. How it plays out is really going to be for you to decide. And based on my experiences to date, you can follow the same scenario 100 times and get 100 different outcomes. As novices, we started by reading the individual scenario and selected the ones that were mutually acceptable and got back on to LH too order some bed restraint and the likes, based on how we expected things to play out. This book is truly fantastic. Even if it’s simply used to break the taboo around bondage, whilst playing out the scenario and discovering what we both liked or disliked it has been the source of many a twist to what would normally have been very enjoyable vanilla together time. It’s opened up so many conversations around pleasing each other, and the sense of control or not being in control and placing all your trust in the hands of your partner is simply fantastically addictive. Since using this booklet, the wife has been shopping and has added nipple clamps, butt plugs, jiggle balls and other items in to our box from the Fifty Shades range. The first time in over 27 years she has purchased any sex toys ever, items now insisting that we tried them in conjunction with the book. We have started a fantastic journey.

A toe dipped in the water, this books gives a non-scary introduction into bondage. I would consider myself a complete beginner when it comes to bondage, it's something done as far as the comical handcuffs to headboard have come out once or twice, but no further. Looking to expand our repertoire this book appears to be a great starting point. The book itself is a small hand-sized hard backed pocketbook and the quality of the paper is rather good. Within the first page is a 'To' and 'From' box, which I thought was rather a nice idea as it would make a nice token stocking filler, new years or Valentine's gift. After a little blurb on safety and best practices with experimenting with bondage, it leads onto the 52 activities/challenges. Each challenge page consists of a simple hand-drawn picture (usually of an object or icon) and a short paragraph detailing the challenge. I quite liked the challenges, for someone not used to bondage and wanting to get comfortable with the concept, they are a great way to include it within your normal sex lives without it taking over as the overriding presence. Anyone already into bondage and regularly using it in their normal sex lives might find the tasks a little simple. To get started you will most likely want to combine buying the book with two restraints that can be used to tie wrists together, ankles together and each wrist separately to either ankles or a headboard. As you get into the tasks you may need more as it asks for blindfolds and optional toys and outfits, but if you're following the tasks as a weekly mission these can be improvised or obtained in time. All in all, I enjoyed the focus of the book and how it flows. My only recommendation would be that it would have been great if it was more interactive. For example tick boxes after each task or a blank page for thoughts after completing the task etc, but that really doesn't detract from the book.

What It Says on the Tin
Rated 7 / 10

This book arrived and was exactly as advertised. It is certainly a good starting point for beginners but as we already had a degree of experience it quickly became obsolete and the 52 ways quickly became repetitive. Ultimately, it would be perfect for beginners but don't expect wonders if you're experienced.

A friendly introduction to bondage
Rated 7 / 10

This cute little book is an ideal fun, friendly and non-threatening way to begin your bondage journey or introduce a little flavour and to usually vanilla playtimes. The whole style of the book is accessible and not scary in the least. The ideas in the book are not extreme and serve more as suggestions (there's no a huge amount of text at all) which can be taken in any direction and as far as you are comfortable. They can start to seem a bit repetitive (tie your partner up, pleasure them/have them pleasure you to your instructions) but I think the idea is for it to get the mind working and get the ball rolling. It does seem to cover lots of aspects of bondage/BDSM such as sensory deprivation, temperature play and impact/pain play but will probably be a bit basic to those that make bondage a regular part of their playtimes. My only criticism would be that I found the red text on the purple pages a little difficult to read. Overall it would make a lovely gift within a couple that have expressed an interest in exploring bondage but are struggling to know where to start. This serves as an excellent ember to build your own hot, passionate blaze.

A bit too vanilla
Rated 5 / 10

I bought this little book as a gift for my OH. It’s cute and on the first page, you can write who it’s to and from. This books does exactly what it says on the cover - gives ideas about how to start off. Some of the ideas were very similar and some were a bit too vanilla to be in a bondage book. A few of the ideas included the use of honey - maybe it’s personal preference but I really didn’t like this at all because I’m not into food play. Overall it’s good for a stocking stuffer or added to another gift.

This little book is a cute and cheeky way to add some spice to the love life. However the dark purple pages and red text make it hard to read so keep that in mind!

It does seem to cover lots of aspects of bondage/BDSM such as sensory deprivation, temperature play and impact/pain play but will probably be a bit basic to those that make bondage a regular part of their play times. My only criticism would be that I found the red text on the purple pages a little difficult to read. Overall it would make a lovely gift within a couple that have expressed an interest in exploring bondage but are struggling to know where to start. This serves as an excellent ember to build your own hot, passionate blaze.

Breaking free from the taboos of bondage

When I was asked if I would like to review a new book for Lovehoney on Bondage I was both excited and apprehensive as a couple with over 27 years of Marriage Bondage was a topic that had often been discussed but never actually acted on. So postman knocks on the door and as always super fast delivery and discreet packaging, this has always given me the assurance that Lovehoney absolutely takes your privacy very seriously. So the book, well first off it’s more a pocket book, not a huge hardback filled with pages and pages of filler text, it’s designed to welcome you not scare you away before you have even explored the content. As a total novice or someone who is familiar with Bondage the book starts with a very simple but fantastically structured welcome section that covers the absolute do and don’ts again it’s not overloaded with text it’s to the point direct and impresses safety and respect. So after digesting and agreeing how your going to move forwards the book simply and beautifully offers you 52 suggestive ways to start your Bondage journey I say ways, possible a better word Would be scenarios how it plays out is really going to be for you to decide and based on my experiences to date you can follow the same scenario 100 times and get 100 different outcomes. As novices we started by reading the individual scenario and selected the ones that were mutually acceptable and got back on to LH too order some bed restraint and the likes, based on how we expected things to play out. This book is truly fantastic, even if it’s simply used to break the taboo around bondage, whilst playing out the scenario and discovering what we both liked or disliked it has been the source of many a twist to what would normally have been very enjoyable vanilla together time, it’s opened up so many conversations around pleasing each other and the sense of control or not being in control and placing all your trust in the hands of your partner is simply fantastically addictive. Since using this booklet the wife has been shopping and has added nipple clamps, butt plugs, jiggle balls and other items in to our box from the 50 shades range, the first time in over 27 years she has purchased any sex toys ever items now insisting that we tried them in conjunction with the book we have started a fantastic journey.

Not exactly what you expect from a book
Rated 3 / 5

It is more like a booklet than an actual book. It is quite small (both in size and page number) and the pages consist of the scenario title/description and an illustration relevant to the topic but not the actual described idea. The ideas are nice, but there are more of a general description of what you could do. Since it is aimed for beginners there should have been more elaborate and useful instructions and illustrations about how to position yourselves, how to tie some basic safe knots etc.

Nothing out of the norm. Nothing overly interesting either.
