Christine Yahya, a Graphic Designer & Illustrator based in Sydney, Australia, began her Pink Bits project in October 2016. Her work is inspired by and celebrates people & bodies in all their glory, illustrating the bits & shapes we’ve been taught to hide. This extends from the physical to the non-physical. Pink Bits strives to create illustrations that represent as many individuals as possible and provide representation for the daily realities, diverse bodies and art for those who are marginalised and not commonly celebrated in our media-dense society.

Christine completed her Bachelor of Design at UNSW Art & Design, majoring in Graphic & Spatial Design. She has been creative from a young age, and has always been drawn to art that features the human body. Christine’s work as Pink Bits comes from a very personal place and originally began as an act of defiance against narrow, biased and unrealistic standards. With a long personal history with ED’s and lack of self worth, Christine’s work started from a personal place to heal from and challenge the importance that these standards held over her life. Her first few works as Pink Bits, were drawn directly from her own nude photographs, and then swiftly shared online. As individuals began to share their affinity for the artwork, she began to delve deeper into creating art for others to feel seen by, and to especially create representation for those who are marginalised and experience a lack of representation in our arts, society & media.

Her work also draw from emotions, environments, relatable moments and our social & political landscape. Christine’s works are rendered in markers, and utilise simplified colour, shape and line-work, to create textured art that is warm and relatable. Pink Bits has worked with brands such as Thinx, Dame Products, Smile Makers, Everpress & more.

Whether used as a standalone piece of decor or paired with wellness products, 'Bloom' stands as a testament to the joy and health of self-pleasure.
